A new Foundation for Family Businesses and Politics

New organisation is being added to the Foundation for Family Businesses

Munich, 10 June 2021. The non-profit Foundation for Family Businesses is the largest sponsor of science and re-search in the field of family entrepreneurship. In this role, it has become a sought-after point of contact on legal, tax and economic policy matters.

Another organisation is now being set up to be the central contact in future for all political matters relating to family businesses. The new “Foundation for Family Businesses and Politics” will in future also express its views at expert hearings in the German Bundestag.

In recent years, the Foundation for Family Businesses has become the leading academic authority in its field. Its expertise is also in demand in German and European politics. That will not change in the future.

Like other non-profit organisations, the sponsors of the Foundation for Family Businesses are thus responding to the ruling by the Federal Fiscal Court in 2019 in which the non-profit status of the Attac network was revoked.

Although the Foundation for Family Businesses is not affected by the judgement, we still want to address the issue proactively with this step, create legal certainty and offer transparency.

Over the past two years, the formal and organisational requirements for the new foundation were created and agreed with the tax authorities and the respective regional council.

The Foundation for Family Businesses is continuing to focus on sponsoring science and research and on sharing ideas on the subject of family businesses. That includes, for example, sponsoring research work and scientific discourse as well as supporting academic theses and professorships and institutes. Since its establishment in 2002, the Foundation for Family Businesses has developed into the leading sponsor of science and research in the field of family entrepreneurship.

The additional “Foundation for Family Businesses and Politics” that has now been established initially has five permanent employees who work in the “House of Family Business” in Berlin. The board members of the new organisation are Prof. Rainer Kirchdörfer and Dr. Ulrich B. Stoll, the managing director is Stefan Heidbreder, in other words, its management is identical to that of the Foundation for Family Businesses. The Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Family Businesses has also agreed to support the work of the “Foundation for Family Business and Politics”.

Both organisations will stand and argue on a firm scientific foundation.

Providing scientifically sound information about the special concerns of family businesses and their importance remains the uppermost guiding principle of the Foundation for Family Businesses and the Foundation for Family Businesses and Politics. Science creates certainty and reliable orientation. It is the best recipe against actionism and populism.
