Executive Board
The foundation’s Executive Board has the status of its legal representative. It represents the foundation both in and out of court. It also manages the foundation. Its duties include managing the foundation’s assets, using the funds to fulfil the foundation’s purposes, keeping records of the foundation’s assets and changes to its assets as well as its income and expenditure. It is also responsible for submitting the annual financial statements, preparing a comprehensive report on the fulfilment of the foundation’s purpose and an auditor’s report.

Advisory Board
The Advisory Board is an advisory body. It oversees the academic research of the Foundation for Family Business and offers ideas. It initiates debates and delves deeper into them. It publishes essays and thesis papers on current challenges facing family businesses and Germany as a location for family businesses.

Board of trustees
According to the foundation’s Articles of Association, the Board of Trustees consists of at least five members who must have the professional and personal qualifications required for such an office based on their education and social standing. At least two thirds of the members of the foundation’s Board of Trustees must be shareholders of family businesses, their spouses or members of the management of a family business, including former members.
The Board of Trustees has the following duties: Advising and monitoring the Executive Board, annual approval of the actions of the Executive Board, examination and approval of the annual financial statements submitted by the Executive Board and the report on the fulfilment of the foundation’s purpose, approval of legal transactions requiring authorisation. It meets at least twice a year.
